A Quick Travel Guide to Charleston

Dana in Charleston

A quote that resonated with me lately is …
“We do not remember days – we remember moments”

Recently, I visited Charleston, South Carolina for a few days with a group of travel advisors. There were many special moments during my stay. I could not help but notice the hanging Spanish moss, pop of color in the wisteria, cobblestone streets and unique architecture throughout the city.

History is preserved in many ways. The old Charleston Library is now home to Hotel Bennett. I was lucky to stay at this stunning hotel located on popular King Street. The entire team could not have been more down-to-earth, gracious and helpful.

A must while staying at Hotel Bennett is Afternoon Tea at Camellias. The décor and selection of options is truly special. Oh, did I mention bubbly and caviar? A private dinner prepared by Chef Eric for our group was perfect in every way. I was impressed with breakfast and dinner at Gabrielle. The cocktails at Fiat Lux were creative and outstanding! And do not get me started on the fresh pastries from La Patisserie.

My room was spacious, impeccably clean with many amenities. The bathroom was complete with a large pedestal tub. You should definitely consider Kings Club access during your stay and make an appointment at The Spa at Hotel Bennett. There are so many other things to mention about Hotel Bennett but not enough space to highlight everything. What I do what to make sure to highlight are the amenities we are able to offer our clients when booking Hotel Bennett which include:

  • Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability
  • Daily breakfast for up to two guests per bedroom, served in Gabrielle Restaurant or via Room Service
  • $100 USD equivalent Resort/Hotel credit to be utilized during stay (not combinable, not valid on room rate, no cash value if not redeemed in full)
  • Early Check-In / Late Check-Out, subject to availability
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

and right now, there is another bonus we can offer our clients at Hotel Bennett …
4th night free!

There are a multitude of activities to do while in Charleston. Moments spent on a walking tour will not be forgotten because of Lisa, our guide from Bulldog Tours. Her knowledge and enthusiasm was infectious!

I was able to help raise one of the masts on the Schooner Pride while on a harbor tour, all while dolphins showed off for us. I highly recommend trying the amazing food in the eclectic atmosphere at Leon’s Poultry & Oyster Shop.

Charleston has a little bit of everything for everyone. History, shopping, architecture, beach, sports, music, museums, theater, food, nightlife, water activities and relaxation are all available in this charming city. (Jen insert – almost as charming as Savannah 🙂

One way to create moments is to connect with people. Anyone who knows me, would likely say I never meet a stranger. The volume of pictures on my phone with people I met on this trip is proof of that.

I encourage you to take that trip even if close to home. Experience a new place or revisit a favorite destination with a new perspective. Take the time to create those moments. Shameless plug – If you happen to want some ideas or help in planning, let us know! Or as Jen says … Just go!
